ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change yesterday.
The agreement was also signed by 175 world leaders.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said “today is an historic day.”
“This is by far the largest number of countries ever to sign an international agreement on a single day.”
The agreement’s objective is to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius, and to strive for 1.5 degrees Celsius.
It was adopted in Paris by the 196 Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at a conference known as (COP21) last December.
