The Ogaden National Liberation Front calls upon the African Heads of State that are meeting in Tripoli, Libya to deliberate on the major conflicts in Africa to include the Ogaden Conflict in the continent’s conflict issues need to resolve.
The Western edge of Ogaden is less than 200 kilometres from the headquarter s of the African Union, where the longest and bloodiest war in African is causing havoc and immeasurable Human suffering to both the Ogaden Somali people and the Ethiopians. The African Union has so far ignored the Ogaden conflict that has displaced at different times more than half a million Ogaden refugees, who are scattered all over the world and the number is continuing to increase. Hundreds of thousands had lost their lives including women and children.
The Ethiopian government has been marginalizing and brutally suppressing the Ogaden Somalis since the Ogaden was forcefully incorporated into Ethiopia after the Second World War. This created an unceasing resistance, which resulted into major wars between Somalia and Ethiopia in 1963 and 1977.
As long as the Ogaden Cause is ignored, the Ogaden people will keep fighting for their rights, which in turn will keep the Whole Horn of Africa mired in conflicts directly or indirectly related to the conflict in the Ogaden. There ONLF requests from the Heads of the African States, if they are truly serious about solving African Conflicts, the Ogaden issue is one of the longest and most catastrophic conflict that the AU needs to address, and stop deferring it in order to please the Meles Zenawi regime.
Ethiopia is continuing the conflict by conducting a scorched earth policy, which has been documented by both the UN and Humanitarian organizations. Since Ethiopia refuses to accept the right of the Ogaden people in a genuine and substantive way and resolve the contentious issues and resorts to force and inhuman measures, and the Ogaden people have exhausted all attempts at peaceful resolution of the conflict, they resorted to a protracted armed struggle. The Ogaden people then formed the Ogaden National Liberation Front , which is currently conducting a popular national liberation struggle in order to defend the Ogaden people and achieve their inalienable rights to self determination and right to life.
Finally, the Head of States should remember that, ten years before, some of the heads of states in this meeting, including Meles Zenawi were wagging a Guerrilla War in order to get the rights of their respective peoples, and the Ogaden people have a legitimate right for self-defense since the regime of Meles Zenawi refuses to resolve the conflict peacefully.
